Toddler Fits and Potty Training…

That time has come, that delightful, joyous time when our toddler has learned how to throw a fit.  Just in time for his second birthday!  Joshua even said in the car, in reaction to Daniel’s cries of outrage, “Huh?  He’s too young to throw fits.”  Ha!  If only!
He threw several of them today.  He threw fits about wanting juice and getting milk instead.  He pitched a good one b/c I wouldn’t let him spend forty forevers buckling his own seatbelt.  Most of his fits actually seemed to involve the bathroom…..Dan’s favorite room in the household!
Ah, the bathroom.  After a day of not being home much I had not had to deal with Daniel’s desire to use the potty, and I was kind of thinking maybe he’d forgotten about it.  Not the case.  Tonight Daniel was thoroughly involved with playing with his toys when he suddenly ran over to me and made his potty signs.  Upon inspection, (warm, wet diaper) it was obvious that he had realized that he had just peed in his diaper and wanted to go to the potty afterwards, so he IS making the connection.  We just need to see if we can get him to put the horse before the cart.  He spent the next 30 minutes running back and forth, bottomless, between his room and his Frog Potty, with no success since he’d just emptied his bladder in his diaper…
This weekend I bought him the cheapest toddler potty money can buy:  $10 Frog potty, on sale at Target (love that place) as well as some generic pull-ups.  Wow.  I don’t know what Daniel has learned, but I have learned something very important:
Never put Daniel to bed wearing a generic pull-up!!!  We have used up all the crib sheets this week b/c I keep forgetting that he’s wearing them.

In other news, Joshua went back to school today and is doing better, still very sniffle-y though.  He and I have had cold symptoms for about three weeks now and can’t shake it.

I wrote a chapter of my book today, bringing me to twelve completed chapters.  There’s nothing like the satisfaction of having sat down to write and finding yourself really getting on a roll!  Before I knew it, it was ten minutes past the time I had meant to get Daniel up and head out to get the boys.  Thankfully, I did manage to not be late.  I just hope I can remember all those ideas I had tomorrow!

Oh, I must share the most important news that I have!!!  I am now an aunt!!!  So exciting!  This little nephew of mine is so beautiful too!

Isn’t he so, so adorable!?  I really do love babies.  I’m excited to switch from kindergarten Sunday School to nursery duty at church in the fall!
Speaking of church, I visited the Ladies’ Bible Study today for my second time.  It was a really good discussion on “taming the tongue.”  You know that feeling when a sin you commit regularly has been mentioned, so you keep your mouth shut and sit there squirming a bit in your seat?  That’s what I was doing this morning when they talked about this topic of watching what we say!!
James 3: 7-10

All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

Ephesians 4:29
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Youch!  Well, you won’t get any commentary on that from me, except to say that Man!  Could I work on that one!
