Daily Life with an Eight-Month-Old

JD is now 8 months old and just as precious as ever.  Let’s talk babies!

Just for the record:

• Joshua began cruising around furniture at 7 months and crawling at 9 months and walking at 12.
• Caleb wasn’t much of a cruiser until later, but I don’t remember!  I do remember that he didn’t crawl until 10 months, and he walked at 13 months.
• Also:  Caleb was the same height as JD but 4 pounds heavier……wowzers
• Daniel:  He became a cruiser around 10 months (I think) and a crawler at the same time.
• John David’s time is coming!

Okay, so, I’m still so brain dead sleepy that I can’t carry a thought!  I’ll TRY to let the pictures tell the rest of the stories:

Thankfully, JD is still sleeping sweetly in his crib.  My boys have a history of being crib jumpers.

Joshua:  jumped out at 9 months.

Caleb:  jumped out at 15 months….became a habit and had to vacate the crib.

Daniel:  sweet boy.  never jumped!

As we speak, Dan is walking around the living room with a toy pan full of plastic food, offering some to everyone.  John David is in the floor, playing with the elephant ball.

It’s 11:36am, and I still haven’t showered or emptied the dishwasher.  Yep, it’s just one of those days.

When you have babies, there are days that are just like this.  I can’t shower with an awake baby, and I can’t do dishes with him awake either because JD needs more floor time, and this momma isn’t ready to put him in the kitchen floor.  I suppose I could put a blanket down in there.  Funny, I hadn’t thought of that.  Hmm.  Maybe in a little bit!

Sometimes people comment on how “laid back” I am.  I always wonder, “Do they mean that as a compliment or an insult??”  I think it depends on the person. I think being “laid back” is a highly desirable quality.  People that are too high strung get on everyone else’s nerves, but then there’s the other side of it.  Are they saying that they don’t think I’m doing a very good job?  I don’t know.  What do you think?

Being laid back is actually a very good coping skill. I’m laid back enough that this week I said, “Eh, I don’t think so” for Monday’s meal, and I also forgot when I made the plan that I  wouldn’t be home on Sunday night.  No problem,  that’s two meals we can eat next week instead.

Get this:  on Tuesday I had an appointment, so my 2 babysitters made the Baked Ziti FOR ME on Tuesday!!  Okay.  Now I’m just bragging.  I’m sorry.  I will stop.

Did you catch the pizza, pizza, pizza part???  I’m leaving town this weekend!  Last time that I’d planned to leave was the weekend of the blizzard, and I got stuck here.  I am trying again this weekend!!  So nervous!!!  I won’t believe it’s real until I’ve safely landed in Florida.

We are laid back enough to keep our children out so late that they end up almost asleep on top of a table….He had a blast, so I’m convinced that that was a perfectly good decision. ; )

Funny things that have happened lately:

Our friend Monica was showing us her yoga moves, so of course, Alan was not to be outdone.  He had to do it too!

Way to go, Alan!

Ah, Caleb, I may not always understand you, but I love you dearly.

Oh, and today I was upstairs feeding the baby, when I heard Daniel downstairs playing frisbee with the DVDs.

Well, now who can be well behaved ALL the time????  ; )

READING THE BIBLE THROUGH IN A YEAR

UPDATE

 I am now in the book of Deuteronomy, and it’s a much more enjoyable read than Leviticus and Numbers!!  It has a great summary of the years of the exodus from Egypt without all the exhausting details on sacrificial laws.

  My favorite part so far is in Deuteronomy chapter 6, where Moses advised the Israelites to be always teaching their children of God’s commands. He tells them to write them on the door frames of their houses and gates, and so on.

  This is why I post Bible verses all over my house–to remind myself to get in line and live a life worthy of the gospel, and that’s important to me.  I never really thought about it until recent years, but the gospel is very offensive to a lot of people.

I could never understand what could possibly be so offensive about an event that obviously DID happen.  Just research it.  It’s well supported by historical evidence.  Jesus died on the cross, and there is no body.

  Then recently I was in church, and they played a Billy Graham video, and he said that the gospel is offensive because it confronts people.  It confronts us with a choice and with our own sin.

  See, I never had any trouble believing I was a sinner, so that never offended me.  I was also never offended by the idea of needing forgiveness.  I went looking for God as a child, of my own accord, I didn’t even belong to a church-going family when I began seeking.

TruthfulIy, I just don’t get what is so overly offensive about Jesus, but apparently Jesus makes people very uncomfortable.

Jesus is amazing, ya’ll.  Everyone in his time either loved him or hated him, and most of the people who hated him were just jealous.  He went around teaching and healing.   He hung out with the commoners, while the church leaders plotted his death.  I’ll stand by that kind of offensive guy any day!

  That’s why you’ll never find any political rants here.  I’m offensive enough with my Jesus beliefs, and that’s a cause that I believe is worth being offensive for–while politics—eh, I’ll vote (most of the time), but past that it’s just not my calling.

“So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you.”          Deuteronomy 5:32

Now I’m off to try to redeem this day!  JD’s in bed, so showering is my next big goal!!!
