When I’m Feeling Blue: A Poem on Motherhood

When I'm Feeling Blue: A Poem on Motherhood

Sometimes I feel so blue I don’t know what to do Go to my room and pray Sometimes I forget to listen God always has something to say I open my Bible and read I promise He tells me to make coffee Yes! Why didn’t I think of this–yummy! Exactly what I need! I go downstairs and see them All sitting so sweetly in their chairs Their faces so sweet and chubby Their hearts so clean  and innocent Their hands […]

Embracing Life

Today I came down with some sort of sinus-y whoozy head problem. I kept feeling like I would faint, and the only cure was to lie down. I spent the afternoon, lying down, mad that I was lying down when I have so much to do. If dark clouds could really hang over your head when your glum, I would have had several. Then I read this blog post, from a blogger I’d never read before. Here’s the link: http://leftwithlouie.com/2014/09/08/what-oscar-said-rings-oh-so-true/ […]

Home Schooling 4 Boys: So Much Work, But So Fulfilling

Home Schooling 4 Boys: So Much Work, But So Fulfilling

He takes about 10 steps a day, but he still crawls most of the time. Apparently JD is a gradual, gradual, gradual learner. 🙂 My life is seriously adorable at the moment, and I am so thankful. It is a TON of work though. We bust our rears on this whole parenting gig. We were hoping to go to Moss Landing today and check out the whales. But not so fast. My friend Sarah found a used fence for sale […]

My Dad

I am so thankful that my dad turned out to be more than just a great dad. He turned out to be an amazing Granddaddy, or as the boys say, “the best granddaddy in the whole world.” Joshua said that this morning. Now that’s not to overlook DaddyO, as he is the greatest DaddyO in the whole world. 😉 Of course, before he was the greatest granddaddy, he was the greatest dad, and he still is. My dad did a […]

But where are your children? Moving Cross Country

Off and on for the entire month of June, our family has been in the process of tackling this cross-country move. There has been stress, travel, excitement, anxiety, and a whole lot of “we’ll see when we get there.” Oh, and by the way, ‘this process’ won’t even be somewhat-finished until the first week of August, when we finally move into our new house, and our household goods arrive. In the meantime, we spend a lot of time crashing at […]

On the Outside Looking In

On the outside looking in, we have had an amazing week: That’s us at a Washington Nationals game on Memorial Day. We love baseball games, and that was really fun. Plus, we’ve gotten to see some wonderful friends this week. Thanks for having us over, Pastor and Terri!!! Their dog is probably still recovering from what Daniel seemed to think was their ‘play date.’ Poor Annie. So good things have happened, and a few crummy things have happened, but nothing […]

Aren’t you going to wear the hat?

This year was, by far, the most fun I have ever had on Mother’s Day, as a mom.  It wasn’t that I did anything special.  I somehow didn’t even manage to get in my regular Sunday nap.  (How did that happen??) The thing was that I just had so much fun with my precious family. Alan took them to town on Saturday and let them pick out my gifts.  His store of choice:  Five and Below.  Sounds like a recipe […]

Easter: The Golden Baptist Standard

Remember last Easter, when I was about 7 months pregnant and I totally forgot to prepare for Easter?  I joked that I had fallen very short of the “golden Baptist standard of Easter Sunday.” Well, boo-yah!!!  Look who planned ahead this year!!!!! Are those MATCHING outfits???  Why,yes, they are!  We’ve come a long way, baby. (For a refresher on last Easter, just click here.) (ahem…..that is a joke. Easter is not about clothing, of course….sometimes it may feel like […]

Expert Tips for Flying with an Infant (that I learned the hard way)

expert tips for flying with a baby

I’m back from my Alabama visit!  I caught the last flight from Atlanta to Baltimore last night.  It is a good thing too because  each flight after it was cancelled, due to the weather. And boy, do I have some tips to share about flying with an infant. Of course, I had to go and learn them all the hard way. Best things about my trip: The visit part was awesome.  The flying part was where the work came in. […]

There ARE angels among us, and most of them are just people.

Why does grocery shopping always turn into the most interesting day of the week?  It sounds so simple, and it is so simple–when I get to go alone.   This week I was bound and determined to do the good ol’ fashioned grocery trip with baby + a toddler thing.  Daniel loves stores, and JD is such a sweet baby, so no problem right? heh-heh  It all started when I got JD’s shots the day before, and I let […]
