School Planning Time! Story of the World History plans are in the works.

It is 2:30. Nobody mess this up. JD is sleeping. Dan is voluntarily in his room building something with Lego blocks, Caleb is building a stunt course out of train tracks down stairs, and Joshua is in the Lego closet building something too. I have to make sure no one sees or hears me. If I am seen, this wonderful moment will be spoiled, and they will start asking me questions… Uh-oh. They are all together again, but at least […]

(Please note that I do collect advertising fees when you purchase through links on my page to Money Saving Mom or Amazon. However, I am not affiliated with Brain Pop. How I wish I were!) I’ve mentioned before that Brain Pop Jr. is a hit at our house. As part of my planning for next year, Cycle 1 of Classical Conversations, I combed through each week and lined up the material with the corresponding videos. I am not a Brain […]

First Year Of Homeschool in Review: and 4 Things I Will CHANGE for Next Year

first year of home school in review

It’s pretty much done. There are 4 days of school left. This chapter of our life is closing, and it’s one of those chapters that I’m speeding ahead, skipping a few paragraphs, and moving right on to the next chapter. In fact, let’s put the whole book down and go on summer vacation because I am so done with this chapter!! Ew. I do not like the things I learned about myself this year. BLEH! Can I escape with a […]

Life in Northern Cal: Modeling Good Habits and Helping the Homeless

There are so many exciting things going on in our chilly little Northern Cal world, it’s hard to keep my head on straight! Alan is in the middle of a mid-term schedule that has him pretty stressed. He actually has to go out of town later this week to test out a drone parachute that he designed. Woohoo! Alan and I are so different. No one would ever, in a billion years, ask me to design ANYTHING. Thanks to this […]

14 Tips for Your First Year of Classical Conversations

14 Tips for your first year of Classical Conversations

Tomorrow night is parent night for our Classical Conversations campus. This will mark the ending of our very first year of Classical Conversations. Joshua’s class will be reciting the Preamble, Caleb’s class will be reciting the first 12 elements of the Periodic Table, and all of the classes combined will be reciting John 1:1-7 in both English and Latin. Oh guess what. As their teacher, I learned all this stuff too. That’s right. It’s like going back to school yourself. […]

Ways to Use Brain Pop Jr. at Home School

Home schooling may be one of the greatest challenges I have taken on as a parent.  One of my biggest struggles is making learning fun. If the boys spend all day doing seat work, writing, and listening to me teach them, they start to become unmanageable. A house of unmanageable children will wreck your day in a hurry. I figure if it is hard for me to find ways to make it fun, it must be hard for other parents […]

Review Olympics. Hot Lava Required.

We had a surprisingly fun day of school today at Ants in Our Pants Elementary School! 🙂 We introduced all of our new memory work for the week, and then we spent about half an hour on reviewing work from past weeks. I’ve been wanting to do this game that’s been floating in my head for weeks, and we finally did it today! The Review Olympics!! It’s more like a centers relay race, only I had the boys do it […]

Six Thoughts from The School for Wiggly Boys

By the end of the homeschool day, I have this NEED to zone out. Does herding children all day make you feel as beat as it does me??? Blogging is my version of zoning out, so let me tell ya what’s been going on lately in our School for Wiggly Boys. -Things are going well. Caleb is making a speedy recovery. Yesterday, you could see his lip shrinking all day long. It was quite the wonder. Today he looks […]

These Delightful Children

This boy has loved this third or fourth hand Nursery Rhymes book until it has completely fallen apart. The adorable-ness level fills my heart with joy. Everyday. My friend Barbara once remarked that, “We can never truly get depressed because we have these children that keep us going. They make us happy.” They do. Did I feel gloriously joyful this morning, when right as we were supposed to leave for church, I found JD soaked from head to toe with […]
