We were on a BREAK!! (a blogging break)

Last year I began to get burned out on the blog. It used to be this thing that I ran to for stress relief, but somehow it didn’t feel like that anymore. The blog started to feel like work, and I started caring about what other people thought about what I wrote, which isn’t like me. Weird. I blogged out of obligation, so naturally, those posts weren’t as fun to read, and I’ve been thinking about it again lately. […]

Funny Fridays: Taking 6 Kids to an Art Museum & Other Stories

When we went to D.C. this summer, I insisted we go and visit my favorite painting in the world, which happens to be at the National Gallery of Art on the National Mall. While we were there, we perused the collections, along with our friend Amy and her children. I thought the day was going amazingly well. We took 6 kids through a museum where you are supposed to be quiet, and I felt like we did a heroic job. […]

Real Army Wives Series. When Alan first deployed: My New Friends at 911. funny and sad stories of young army bride

******This is the 11th chapter in the series The Real Army Wives, stories from a young military bride from the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2003.****** I tell you this particular chapter with hesitation and humility. It’s an embarrassing story, but at the time, this was my reality. I hope you can laugh with me now, and rest assured that I am not normally this paranoid. I promise. Good-bye Summer

Only 1 more day until school starts back!!!  Yay!!!! Y’all, I might have overdone it this summer. Hmmm, Israel, Washington, D.C., trips back and forth to my parents’ as well as Alan’s parents’ house, camps, and the beach!!??? Who does that? It was wonderful, and yet it was also like eating way too much at an all-you-can-eat donut buffet. I definitely over-packed this summer with fun activities. Lesson learned. Schedule more down time. Of course, next summer is a moving […]

Shopping and Shedding Pounds in Tel Aviv

When I talked to Julie the week before our big trip, she mentioned that she enjoys walking, and she hoped to walk everywhere in Tel Aviv. “Perfect, I love walking!” I said. But then, as I got to know Julie better, I began to realize we were not exactly on the same level with the physical fitness. She walks, and she runs, and she exercises. Julie is what we call fit. Super fit. I am more like what we call….not […]

Our Young Military Marriage: Training, Tutwiler, and Thievery

For previous posts on our young military marriage, click here. This is part of the series I’m writing called The Real Army Wives. As I mentioned before, Alan was away at training the first 4 months of our marriage, while I finished up my degree at the University of Alabama. I lived in Tutwiler Hall. The funny thing about Tutwiler Hall, which is the freshman girls’ dormitory, is that there were actually 2 different buildings in the state of Alabama named Tutwiler. […]

Well, for any parent who decides to stay home with the kiddos during their week off of school, these are definitely not lazy days. Duh, right? But it’s still fun. I cooked 3 meals yesterday. Do you think […]
