The Mid-Day Slump

I tend to start my days off really, really slowly.  I drag myself downstairs, or usually one of the boys drags me down the stairs.  I feed people.  I make myself coffee. An hour later, I’m fully awake and ready to tackle the day.  I make a list and have GREAT BIG, HUGE plans to save the world and solve all of my problems that day.  I begin crossing things off my list. Mishaps happen along the way, and by […]

The World of a 4 month old

Our little John David, 4 months old! …and big boy, sitting up shot He has a dimple in each cheek, and I just love that! Welcome to the world of a 4 month old!    When Aunt Amy and Uncle Greg visited, Wesley was 4 months old, and he seemed so big to me…..compared to our 4 week old!!  That’s so funny because now that I’m at the four month mark too, it still seems so small. Cousin Wesley at […]

“A short phase of long days”

Looks like the swaddling days are coming to a close.  It’s an important game to him, though.  He insists (via crying) that I swaddle him, or he won’t go to sleep.  As soon as I leave the room, he pulls his arms out, but he gets mad if I pull them out for him.  ….So I guess it doesn’t hurt anything if I always swaddle him loosely enough for him to escape? Things I’ve heard around our house: Caleb:  Hey, […]

My New Job

Isn’t he precious?  When he’s sweet, he’s Dr. John David……but then when you least expect it, he instantly transforms into Mr. Bobby…purple baby crying, and you’d better act fast.   When I say my “new job”, don’t panic, thinking, “She could not possibly handle any new jobs right now.”  Well, you’re right anyway, I can’t.  I don’t really mean that kind of job though.  I’m actually referring to the adjustment to school starting back.    I have figured out why […]

John David Bobby: 2 months

2 months old

2 months!   Somehow, in the midst of two million diaper changes, endless hours of breastfeeding, pacifier training (this is where you teach the baby to love a “paci”), anemia, isolation from the world, sleep deprivation, and even the return to sleeping normally, John David Bobby has turned 2 months old.  2 months old!    I have said before, “I feel like I keep having this same baby.”  It’s really true.  They have all been so much alike.  Some have […]

John David: The Uncut Version

feeling a little bit cross-eyed….   I was looking through the photos on my tablet today, and I realized that I had shared all of the *best*, sweetest photos……but I did not share the funniest photos…..   So here you have it:  John David’s birth uncensored:  These juice boxes they give to Mommy are delicious! I think Caleb kind of looks like a Dr. Seuss character in this picture.  And yes, Nana is wearing 2 pairs of glasses.  Aw, what […]

Pictures from my NEW camera

This is John David, officially 2 weeks old!!   These days when I talk to people they ask me two very valid questions: 1.  How are you?  2.  How is J.D.?   So let me answer those 2 questions honestly: 1.  I attempt sleep 12 hours/night, but when you add up all the hours I spend during those 12 hours feeding and changing the baby, I sleep 7 hours/night.  Seriously.  I did the math.  My gut is bloated and achy. […]

Newborn Time

John David, 8 days old    I am now 9 days out from my c-section.  I’m feeling better, but not great.  C-sections are a literal pain, but of course it is worth it to have my precious new little man.      Drugs have become a very important part of my life.  (Sounds like a wonderful mommy thing to say, huh?)  When they first sent me home, I tried to keep up with my own medication schedule.  After twice taking the […]

This One’s For the Grandparents : )

Daniel meets John David Today I’m uploading lots of videos of our children that will probably only be interesting to the grandparents.  This one’s for you, Granddaddy, Nana, DaddyO, Nonna, Granddaddy and Grandma Cunningham!!  : ) Dan loves babies. Dan loves baseball. John David was VERY sleepy after having his first bath at home.  He did not enjoy the bath.  For little ones with a cord, they cannot be submerged in bath water.  They hate being cool, so it is […]

5 Things to Love About the Postpartum Phase

5 Things to Love about Postpartum

Today was the fifth day after the birth.  John David is still seriously sweet, and we are all so excited about him.    Giving birth is such a strange adventure.  It’s so weird how each time is a little different too.  This has been a crazy week.  Here are a few highlights from all the “postpartum” fun: #1. All morning I had a headache, and I couldn’t figure out how this could be.  Hello?  I’m taking 800 mg of ibuprofen, […]
