First Year Of Homeschool in Review: and 4 Things I Will CHANGE for Next Year

first year of home school in review

It’s pretty much done. There are 4 days of school left. This chapter of our life is closing, and it’s one of those chapters that I’m speeding ahead, skipping a few paragraphs, and moving right on to the next chapter. In fact, let’s put the whole book down and go on summer vacation because I am so done with this chapter!! Ew. I do not like the things I learned about myself this year. BLEH! Can I escape with a […]

Screwdrivers, Food, and Price Increases: Yes, it makes sense!

Have I mentioned that I only have 4 weeks of teaching left for this year? Surely I have mentioned this because I am plumb GIDDY. The last few weeks of teaching are a lot like the last few weeks of ANYTHING. It’s getting a little sloppy. People that say “finish strong” are basically just getting on my nerves at this point. So here’s what’s been going on: 1.Caleb developed a sudden fascination with a screw driver today. The toys took […]

Why I Don’t Blog About the News

Sometimes when it feels like the whole world is in an uproar, believe it or not, I DO find it hard to go on my blog and talk about what’s going on in our little bubble this week. I do read the news. My heart does go out to the suffering. We do teach our boys about the world they are growing up in. We do our best to look at all sides of each issue. This just felt like […]

There’s Something Strange in the Neighborhood…

This week my website theme (basic framework for what my pages look like) went BONKERS. I inserted a fix, thanks to a wonderful family that I know here, that made my home page look regular again. (Thanks again, Geno!) All of my old posts are almost completely unreadable.  The side bar crosses into the regular part. The white part that used to go behind the words is gone, and I have no idea what brought this all on. 🙁 I […]

The Broken Phone, The Aquarium, and the Cat

As you can see in this picture, when it comes to my husband, I have no room for complaints. The man is clearly dressed to work. Meanwhile, he’s also wearing a kitchen towel on his shoulder. He’s trim and fit, helpful, kind, funny, and a wonderful Christian example for all. My grandfather gave me only one piece of advice my whole life: “April, never marry a man who doesn’t work.” Good advice. Alan does work hard. I wouldn’t even mention […]

A Week of Serious Breakthroughs

home school breakthroughs

When I started college in 1999, the computer world looked absolutely nothing as it looks today. We barely used email, let alone websites. Books were purchased at stores that sold coffee, notes were written on paper, and Facebook, WordPress, and Twitter were not even thoughts in anyone’s heads. On top of that, as an easily bored 18 year old, I swore off anything computer or business world related. I made my home in the school of Arts and Sciences. The […]

I don’t know how, and I don’t know what all their criteria is, but believe it or not, I am in the top 50. It’s okay. You can be surprised. I am too! This is a Voiceboks.com contest. I didn’t do anything to enter it. They just picked me. Talk about a nice pat on the back. I’m going to enjoy this today, and I won’t let it bother me at all that I have 3 votes so far, while […]

My Story of Faith

Like most bloggers, I like to check the statistics on my web site and review what things get read and what things don’t. As a general rule, whatever is on my home page gets read, and most of the tabs at the top don’t get referenced very often. Why do I care? I’m not making any money yet, but it’s still good to know. A while back, I typed out the story of how and why I have chosen this […]
