Put on Your Big Girl Panties and Deal With It

What parent doesn’t loathe whining?

ugh.  I got an earful of whining this morning since Joshua had to go to school and Caleb (still recovering from monstrous a cold) didn’t.  Joshua whined from the time he got out of bed until the time he buckled his seatbelt.  I was patient from 6:40 until 7:30, at which point I snapped and yelled at him….

…..so I will not do the same to you and whine about all of my little complaints.

I suppose it is time for me to just “put on my big girl panties and deal with it.” (And yes, my panties really are a bit more ‘big girl’ these days anyway).

A crazy thing happened today.  Spring finally showed up!  It’s a beautiful day outside.  It’s warm and sunny, and for the first time since I don’t remember, you don’t have to put on a coat to walk to the mailbox.  HURRAY!!!!

I had not thought of one side effect to this…

My watermelon belly can no longer be hidden behind my coat.  I really wasn’t thinking much about this until I went to the park to pick up Joshua and stumbled into my park friends, who are not used to seeing me without my coat on.   with my current belly size.

One of them said, “April, how big are your babies?”
“9 pounds…..”
“When are you due again?”
“…June”
“June what?”  drat.  (If I just say June, maybe they will think early June and be less amazed..)
“June 19”  (It’s not a lie.  That is the c-section date.  I plan on having this baby by June 19!)

Oy.   There’s really no way around it.  There will be LOTS and lots of comments, shocked faces, and feeling like a freak show for the next 72 days.

I might as well go ahead and embrace the bump.  So don’t feel like you are walking on eggshells with me about my belly (or even the ever expanding width of my booty…)  You can say whatever you like.  It’s here to stay for a while, and there isn’t a thing I can do about it, so who cares.  Bring on the stares!

……By the way, it turns out that pregnant women really do have exercise limitations.

I signed up for a fitness at the park class, and the first session was Friday.  I did enjoy the class, but –o wow– the backs of my legs have been killing me ever since.  In fact, they seem to be getting worse rather than better.  The instructor did warn me to be careful with the stretching b/c ligaments in pregnancy tend to be more flexible and you can overdo it.  Well, what ever there was to overdo, let me tell ya, it was overdone.

On a more positive note, I have most of my energy back.  I feel worlds better than last week.

Last week I was diagnosed with pregnancy anemia, and I was running on empty. Now if only I could get my house to magically clean itself.  My legs hurt so bad I don’t even want to think about picking up all of Daniel’s toys…

Okay, really, no whiny April.  Let me go see what I can get done!  Everything is such a mess, I should really take before and after pictures!  And maybe some Tylenol.

This pregnancy stuff will all be over soon, and in the end we will have another one of these little guys.  Then it will all be worth it.  : )

  • I think Daniel looks a lot like Caleb in the first pudding picture! So cute! April, you are always pretty when pregnant so just enjoy this last one! Those of us with short torsos always look more pregnant than those with long torsos like Amy. Be proud of those big baby boys in that tummy! Really enjoy the way you record the boys' conversations. Thanks for all the updates. David and I are headed to see Wesley next Subday after SS and then I get to fly to your house a couple of weeks later. This will be an exciting month! Nonna
