5 Cool Things I Found on the Internet this Week
One of your duties as a blogger is to read other blogs. There are many reasons for this. It makes you a better writer, builds your online community, and also you learn things. At least one day per week, I take an extended stroll around the internet visiting my favorite blogs, and I try to regularly visit new ones as well.
This week I found such cool stuff, I just had to share with my own blog readers. Usually I just pin the good things. Pinning is such an easy way to bless a writer. When you see an article online that you thoroughly enjoy, they usually have “Pin it” buttons on their pictures or at the bottom of their articles, and by simply pinning these, you are giving that writer free marketing by spreading their work around.
Here are a few articles I found that are not only Pinterest worthy, but they blessed me in some way this week so much that I wanted to share them with my readers.
#1. 20 Frugal Recipes from the Great Depression
What a fabulous idea!!! I love it. Not only does she list all these recipes, brought to you by the 1930s, but she has all kinds of other articles on her website about the Depression, frugal tips, and cooking. I was so excited that I pinned, shared it on my blog, and then followed her on social media. This is fun content. Plus it’s helpful.
#2. Is This a Sign of the End Times?
This is a question that does come to mind these days, whether you are joking or serious. I have a friend on Facebook who is very serious about this topic and brings it up regularly. Our pastor has also begun to teach through Revelation on Sunday morning, which I’m quite thankful for. The book of Revelation is not one that I have spent much time studying. I have read it many times, but I do not pretend to truly understand it.
This article by Michele Morin reflect well how I think many of us feel about it, certainly how I feel anyway. I encourage you to scoot over there and give it a read. In a nutshell, these lines were my favorite:
Whether we have ten minutes, ten years, or ten thousand years remaining on this planet, let’s not waste them! God will meet your weakest resolve for good with all the riches of his grace. Let’s open our lives to that great power for good!

#3. iNaturalist
I found this cool app when I was trying to figure out the identity of a few plants in my yard. How often do you find yourself wondering what this bush or tree or flower is? This app lets you snap a photo, upload it to the app, and it will make suggestions. Occasionally, it will even positively identify your plant for you.
This thing was addictive for me. It didn’t take ten minutes for me to have every plant in my yard uploaded. Haha! It all started out because I was trying to figure out if something was a weed or not. Turns out said weed was actually toxic, so we tore it out. True story.
#4. Kohl’s stores in Maryland did re-open.
This probably isn’t true for the major metro areas of D.C. and Baltimore, but I live in a smaller city, so they are open where I am. That is exciting news for this avid Kohl’s shopper right here.
#5. ….And for those of you who need something funny: Have you seen Dude Perfect?
This is a YouTube channel that Caleb showed me last week. He binge watches their comedy videos, and he INSISTED I watch some of them with him. He was right. They are HILARIOUS. This past week they also debuted a Dude Perfect Documentary on their channel, which we haven’t seen yet, but my friend Erin said that it’s really good.
Well, that is all I have today. We had a fun Memorial Day out this morning. All six of us headed to a local state park and did some wading, walking, throwing the ball around. Of course, Rosie joined us too. It was such a wonderful break, and I think it was the first outing the boys have had since March 13th.
I hope you all had a good one too. Happy Memorial Day!
Interesting Finds. Thanks for sharing ….
I love the Artful Homemaking site! I love that she links up with the Happy Now.
Great finds 🙂
Very cool roundup! I am familiar with Michele but not Dude Perfect. Now I need to be! Some of our favorite stores are reopening too, although some other favorites haven’t yet and I’m a bit heartbroken waiting!
I’ve been laying low but went into my favorite farm market yesterday. Everyone wore a mask and it’s in a hill town that has zero cases of COVID so I figured it was ok. And they still had all their amazing foods!
Now.. onto Kohl’s. Soon.
Yay! SO glad y’all are enjoying Dude Perfect. Also, iNaturalist sounds so much up my alley that I’m a little afraid to download it, for fear of app addiction.
Well the good news is you will eventually run out if plants in your yard like I did. 😂 But then you will start looking at your neighbor’s yard…ha!
Can’t begin to tell you how honored I feel to be included in your round up. Thanks so much for the encouragement!
