Dirt boy does not wish to go to the potty.

JD is the definition of “all boy”. He requires 2 baths and 3 sponge-downs/day. He plays in dirt, sand, mud, and water. He’s the easiest toddler in the world because you will hardly hear a grunt out of him all day. He wakes up, and he says, “Dirt?” “You want to go play in the dirt?” “Yeth.” “Sure,” and we open the door to our mini-fence. It is literally a mini-fence. It is the size of a bedroom, and since […]

“Dad, you’re better than a kangaroo.”

As I mentioned yesterday, we are in Florida, on vacation. Joshua asked us last night, “So where are we going to church tomorrow?” Oh. um… I thought we’d just go to the beach. However, we are not ones to ignore the requests of our children, especially such a noble request. We went to a contemporary Southern Baptist Church called The Village. We dropped JD off at the nursery, and the rest of us sat together through a service, and I […]

My name is April, and I am addicted to Facebook.

Facebook is holding me back. I’ll tell you what I mean. Tonight I really wanted to go to bed early. My new “good habit” for this month, via coachcox.com is getting 8 hours of sleep per night. Stop shaking your head and chuckling. I can do it. Can YOU? That’s right. I’m literally taking a SLEEP challenge. I’ve never been so happy to accept a challenge. 🙂 Coach Cox doesn’t really call it a sleep challenge. He calls it building healthy […]

Daniel thinks that I am April O’Neil.

Today Daniel turned four. I asked him what kind of cake he’d like for his birthday. In the very early years of parenting, I always bought the boys grocery store cakes with characters on them. There were a couple of years I even tried to make super pretty cakes–Caleb had a really impressive train cake two years in a row. But decorating cakes is a giant weakness for me. I’m just not good at it, so I resorted to buying […]

Worst Mother Ever: Presentation Day

I have been working all day to clean up. My in-laws are on their way! We are excited, but man, we have gotten MESSY lately.  By 5:20, I couldn’t even finish straightening up. I just ran out of steam. I told the boys, “Nonna and DaddyO will be here in 2 hours!” “Yay!!!” they all cheered. I said, “We still need to go upstairs and finish cleaning up, after dinner.” Daniel jumped out of his chair, and said, “Me go […]

One Tough Seven-year-old

This week was my birthday. I did not have a good birthday. I had both a terrible and a wonderful birthday. Don’t you think so many things can be both bad and good at the same time? That was my birthday this year. It was bad because I was so sleep deprived that I could barely function. It was also amazing. One boy worked on my birthday present all week. He made me four different Super Mom comic books. Then […]

Every Good and Perfect Gift is from Above

10 Random Thoughts from an Exhausted Mom (It was a long day.) 1. How many boys, ages 9 down to 20 months, will fit in a standard American bathtub? At least four, as my children have proved. I’m sure if I had another child, they would show me how to fit five. 2. What does desperation sound like when it’s time to cook supper? “Here, boys, play with this bowl of water in the floor while I finish cooking.” 3. […]

“A world without friends, I don’t think I could bear it.”

“A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.”  (Unknown) Jennings and I have been friends since I was 19, and Jennings was 18. Now we are in our 30s. We have gone from bright-eyed, hard-working college students, who both seemed to hardly ever get a date, to what we are now…..one married mom of four and one successful flight attendant and aunt extraordinaire. Jennings […]

The Boldest Thing I Ever Did for Love

Today, as I sat rocking my sweet, snotty little JD to sleep, I was reminded of a part of my love story with Alan that I don’t think about much. It’s a story I don’t recall sharing on my blog, about the boldest thing I’ve ever done for love. Bold, outspoken, and controversial are not words that I believe apply to me, especially when I was young. When it came to boys, romance, love, and all of those sorts of […]

Making Transitions and Solving Sleep Problems

I’ve been talking a lot about my hermit problem, and I want you all to know that things are getting so much better around here. The boys are finally opening up a little more at tutoring. I had to practically drag them away from there today! Even John David doesn’t cry when I drop him off for the tutoring childcare! We have all met plenty of people that we truly like, and the fact is that I haven’t met one single […]
