Beat Down Momma with 4 Under 7

beat down mama

None of us would make it as parents if it weren’t for moments like these. There are days in the great game of parenting where you just feel beat down.  That’s me today. I am the beat down momma. I’m just so tired of hearing myself say things like: -“No, get back in bed.” -“Joshua–Caleb–Daniel!”   ….because for some reason both Alan and I seem to have to always go through all the wrong names before we find the right […]

I Love Being a Boy Mom and This is Why

I love being a boy mom and this is why.

I mean really there are a billion reasons why I LOVE being a boy mom, and I cannot list them all. But I am going to do my best to paint a picture of this life and how fun it can be. People often laugh when I tell them that I have four boys. Actually, I laugh when I really think about it!  And still people constantly ask me if I’m going to “try for that girl”.  Well, the answer […]

Summer Parenting

John David is now 1 whole month old!!  He has grown enough to way make up for being born the smallest brother.  The boy really is 23 1/2 inches long.  He must be.  His 0/3 month sleepers are getting too short.  Can you believe that? Summer is going full force.  I suppose it has been for a while….only I am just now noticing it.  Another crazy thing to blame on my postpartum state. Parenting during the summer is a very […]

One Thought

I have only one thought to share with you today, now that ALL FOUR of my children are here.  Here it is:1.  What have I gotten myself into?  I may have to hold my mother here prisoner….. (7am, 2 week check up this morning) 2.5 weeks old. 9 lb 13 oz. 23 1/2 inches  (We kind of doubt the accuracy of that length measurement). Our doc said, “You guys are just wonderful.  I wish all my parents were like you.” […]

Father’s Day: Birth Week 2013

My boys are so ridiculously blessed.  Here’s what they did with their dad for Father’s Day: 1.  gave Daddy his presents 2.  went to church with Daddy 3.  picked up Papa John’s pizza for lunch with Daddy 4.  went out on the BOAT with Daddy– for the second day in a row (um wow)– AND even got to take along some friends with them on the boat today.  I wonder if Alan took pictures….   I don’t know if […]

Pre-Birth Jitters: Too Excited to Sleep at Night!

pre-birth jitters

***Too Excited to Sleep*** I have the worse pre-birth jitters ever!!! This is so crazy and ridiculous, but for about a week now I have been too excited to go to sleep at night!! I’ve been having to take naps when Dan does in order to finish out my day, but then when it’s time to go to bed, forget it.  I’m not uncomfortable.  I’m not one of these that makes constant trips to the facilities. I just lie there […]

The Summer of No Video Games

summer of no video games

In our modern age, we have developed a word I don’t quite recall from my own childhood:  playdates.  We always had lots of friends over to play, but they were usually impromptu occurrences whenever we’d be driving our own parents crazy inside, so they would say, “Go outside and play,” at which time we would run into all neighborhood kids that had also been kicked outside.  : ) This still happens, of course, and we are fortunate enough to have […]

Full Review of the Large Family Logistics book

How cute is my most willing little helper!?         I have mentioned before that my favorite parenting book is Large Family Logistics.   *When you purchase through Amazon ads on this site, I do collect advertising fees. Small ones.* Two things I like most about Large Family Logistics: This book is no longer in print. However, Kim Brenneman wrote an updated version that will help you just as much: Home Management Plain and Simple   1.)  It serves […]

Epilepsy Update

Most of you already know that Caleb was diagnosed with epilepsy (a person who has had two or more seizures with unknown cause) a year ago. All but one of his seizures has been full-on convulsions in his sleep.  The one exception was an absence seizure, which he had a year and a half ago, in the swimming pool. He was standing there, and then his eyes crossed as he stared off into space, and he couldn’t hear or respond […]

Just Call Me Aunt Bee. We all want to be appreciated.

Today I left Alan with all three boys, ages 2 to 6, while I went to the chiropractor’s office and to Target.  I heard the sweetest, sweetest words when I got home. “It was….that kid…..no, not just him, that one too.  Oh my gosh.  April, please don’t leave me here alone with them again.” “Where’s Caleb?” “Huh?  Oh, I don’t know.  He’s fine.  At least he’s been entertaining himself!” BAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Now, of course, Alan was JOKING about me not leaving him […]
