Touring the Smithsonian American History Museum with Alan’s Grandparents

Tonight everyone in this house is seriously exhausted. I am probably the only one that is still awake, and it’s only 10:40 pm!!!  It’s been a busy, busy week. The biggest and most exciting news–and I have several bits of news!–was Joshua’s great success today!! Joshua ran his very first 5K race, and when I say that the boy ran to win, you’d better believe it.  He took off like a shot, zipped through his first mile like it was […]

My Vacation Timeshare Disaster

The Vacation Time Share Disaster

This past Friday, we gathered up all of our chick-ies and headed to Massanutten Ski Resort.  I had been so proud of myself for finally booking a nice vacation for us, well in advance.  We aren’t always the best vacation planners.  You can make us sound fun by calling us “spontaneous”, but really that just means we procrastinate until we actually leave and then end up “winging it,” missing out on all the things that book out really far in […]

Expert Tips for Flying with an Infant (that I learned the hard way)

expert tips for flying with a baby

I’m back from my Alabama visit!  I caught the last flight from Atlanta to Baltimore last night.  It is a good thing too because  each flight after it was cancelled, due to the weather. And boy, do I have some tips to share about flying with an infant. Of course, I had to go and learn them all the hard way. Best things about my trip: The visit part was awesome.  The flying part was where the work came in. […]

Not the puddle!!!….Eh, go ahead….

Today it was finally warm.  Really, really warm!  I was so excited.   I promptly rolled out our amazing double jogger and we headed out for a good little 1 mile walk. I thought, “Hey, this stroller is so amazing it can do ANYTHING!”  It can– sort of– it plowed right over snow hills easily….except I might have been a little over eager b/c I flattened a tire.  (Alan, will you please fix that for me??  Thank you!)  Check out […]

Our Nightmare Before Christmas

Let me tell you a story about the time we had our own real life nightmare before Christmas. There are times when things just don’t go the way that you had hoped.  Embarking on a looong car trip with four children is a foolish brave thing to do. It all began around 10pm the night before we left.  I walked into Dan’s room to get something, and I noticed he had a very wet sounding snore.  “Oh no,” I thought. Around […]

Jellystone Gloucester/Yorktown/Jamestowne in Pictures

Jellystone Time! So Nonna and DaddyO left on Wednesday, and Friday we planned to head out for our biggest family vacation yet:  Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Jellystone Park.  The boys were so excited.  Alan and I were so exhausted, but somehow we pulled it off –sort of…. We called it our Williamsburg trip, and we totally thought we’d get to see Melody while we were there, but we knew we couldn’t commit, our tribe being what it is…  And we […]

All the Latest

Look who’s 8 weeks old!!! weight:  14 lbs.  height:  no idea    We got back from vacation Tuesday night.  Wednesday and Thursday we got a few things done, such as Daniel’s physical/ 2 year old check-up.  We finally got around to it because he has to have it to start preschool!  He did have to get one shot, which left a big fat bruise, but he handled it very well.  Dan’s stats:  30 lb. 37 inches.  Just a few months […]

Day 2: The New Plan Train Museum & Baltimore Aquarium

Day 2:  Dutch Wonderland Toy Train Museum and the Baltimore Aquarium   Our plan for day #2 was to take the kids to Dutch Wonderland.  Instead, we woke up to rain and flash flood warnings.  (I was secretly excited to not have to walk around a burning hot theme park and breast feed a baby there every three hours.  I think theme parks are the hottest places in the world, thanks to all that asphalt.)    We searched the […]

Road Trip to Lancaster Day 1: The Amish Meet Caleb

Family Road Trip Day 1 Lancaster, PA   Alan and I really wanted to give the boys a taste of vacation fun, while doing something that is not just fun for them (like a theme Park), but also fun for us.   Alan knew that after reading one too many Wanda Brundstetter novels, I was longing to visit Lancaster and get a peek at those Amish folk.  We knew that any road trip/vacation we took needed to be short […]

Family Reunion

This weekend the kids and Alan went to a family reunion in Georgia.  So here I will attempt to tell you about a weekend…..that I wasn’t actually a part of!  Ha!  I’ve heard the story from several sources, and it sounds like a good time was had by all.  They stayed at a park that boasted such amenities as spacious cabins and on-site alligators! To all of you that were there:  I so wish I could’ve been there.  Next year!! […]
