Fishin’ with DaddyO Photoblog

[amazon text=Amazon] Fishin’ With DaddyO These weekends were just as beautiful as the photos appear. Alan took our youngest two boys and went camping with DaddyO in Alabama. They fished, they cleaned the fish, they ate the fish, they learned about the importance of gun safety while shooting cans, and they got to sleep in a tent. It looks so good, it almost makes me wish I had gone too. But then I remind myself that I don’t touch worms, […]

I am a sucker for a rescue.

Do you love a good rescue story? Man, I am a sucker for a rescue. Lately, I’ve been feeling down. I’ve been letting circumstances get to me. I’m still pouting over losing my people in this move. I still have my family, my most important people. But I lost my support groups. I lost my friends. Friends are a tricky thing to replace. The thing is you can’t replace them because no two people are the same. It’s not possible. […]

Do your kids love writing thank you notes???…..So here’s a solution.

Our family has never been known for our stellar thank-you note etiquette. Instead, thank you notes typically make my boys want to actually return their presents. “Skylanders, YES!!!!!” “THANK YOU NOTES??? Oh, um, oh, uh. Moaaaannnnnn….Groannnnn….” Look, it’s not that they are ungrateful. They SAID thank-you 100 times, jumped up and down, and gave the giver a hug. We are thankful, okay. But sitting down in an actual chair and WRITING out thank you notes??? Apparently some people don’t love […]

The Weight of the Choices that We Make

Wow! What an election year, eh? Alan got to be in Washington, D.C. for election night, but it was not just me and the boys here. Nana came over too! We had an “election party”, which is basically where we feed the boys Oreos and let them fill out the electoral map with red and blue markers as the results come in. Of course, most of it had to wait until the morning. I always stay up as late as […]

A Letter of Hope from 2003

This week is Veteran’s Day, and as the wife of a veteran it’s a holiday full of meaning for me. In honor of Veteran’s Day, I thought I’d share this letter that I wrote to Alan on New Year’s Eve, 2003. Alan was in Iraq, and I was living in Texas. What started out as this nightmarish, depressing event (sending my husband to war–I was all of 22 years old) had gradually turned into a year of growth and new […]

Global Warming, Honest Abe, and the Best Month Ever

November is quite possibly my favorite month of the year. Why? It all boils down to 2 primary reasons. #1. It is not SUPPOSED to be 90 degrees anymore. I’d do anything to get these temps turned down. ARE humans causing global warming? I don’t know. I don’t care anymore. If there’s a chance it might work, here, take my car keys……. Wait……. Does that mean I have to home  school again? No, never mind. You can have my electricity, […]

3 Fall Funnies and a NEW Giveaway for Your Kitchen!

It was an exciting weekend here, so I have FUNNY stuff to share today. I thought this photo well captured the key difference between Daniel and me. Look at how neat his memory tiles are. Look at mine. He clearly got a few things from his father. Looks sweet, right? You’d never know that 30 minutes before he cried all the way through Target until I cried uncle and went home. *Groannnnnn.* Hehehe! No, I’m just kidding. I have no […]

3 Months Since the Move: Snakes, Pumpkins, and Smiling

3 months since the move

It has officially been three months since the move, and we are still adjusting to Georgia life. The other day we went outside, and Joshua said, “Hey! Mom! Look a snake!” That is not what you want to hear first thing in the morning. But then I saw it. “Is that a worm?” “No! Look how it moves!” Joshua insisted. “Yeah, yeah, you’re right, but that has to be a baby snake.” By that time, all the brothers had arrived. […]
