“We don’t want to eat the bread; we just want to collect the bread.”

Today we took the day off from the endless driving and spent the day doing tourist-y things instead. My dad told us about this Grand Canyon Railway that takes you to the Grand Canyon, and we decided to give it a shot. We had such a wonderful time. The Grand Canyon was amazing, so I have more to share on that next time. This time I just want to share a few amusing quotes from the trip so far. Why? […]

Road Trip to the University Of Alabama

University of Alabama campus tour

We are well into our very first cross country road trip tonight, currently staying in Amarillo. “Amarillo by Morning” is now stuck in my head. It’s 12 am central time, and we are pretty sleepy. Unfortunately, we put clothes in the hotel washing machine downstairs. That means we have another hour and fifteen minutes, at best, before we can go to bed. Now I wish we’d packed ourselves more clothing. Drat. It was a long day of driving, driving, and […]

Cross Country Road Trip of a Lifetime: First Stop: Alabama

JD’s first move— He seems to be having a pretty good time.  Today Alan and I kissed our children good-bye and set back out–alone this time–on our big cross-country road trip. It’s really been fun so far.  Over the last few days I have gotten to visit both sides of our families, swim in the backyard pool with my two oldest boys, celebrate JD’s first birthday, visit a Pioneer Museum in Alabama, and even revisit the University of Alabama campus, […]

Cross Country Road Trip: Days 2 &3

Day 2 Day Two was off to a smashing start. We loaded up the van, got cozy in our seats, turned the key……..and nothing. That was the 3rd dead battery in a week, so there was no escaping the fact that we needed a new battery. We got jumped off from a kind stranger: a sweet little lady with a Christian fish on her van. You know, you have to really know you’re a good Christian to put one of […]

Road Trip Day 1: First stop, Knoxville

Our move-out inspection was at 9am this morning. I think they actually all got started around 8:30 am, which was a good thing because it took a while. John David has proved to be quite the handful this week, all by himself, so I decided to take him for a walk and keep him out of the way, at the park, during the big inspection. I’m really glad I did because it was over two hours before Alan was done. […]

wrapping up and moving out

Right now I am sitting in my car so that John David can nap.  His crib is on a humongous,  seriously full,  moving van headed west.  That’s right.  All of our stuff is gone.  Our house is empty. His play pen is at our hotel room. Yesterday sweet little JD actually took one of his naps in the guest room floor of my friend Stacie ‘ s house.  JD and I hung out there while they emptied our house because […]

Military Kids and Moving

My kids are the classic military kids. They have weathered years of deployments. They have said good-bye to so many friends, and they have moved several times in their short lives. This particular move is bigger for the boys, though. This is the first move that Joshua and Caleb will remember for the rest of their lives. Saying good-bye to people that you are close to, people that are like family, is hard. It’s also hard to watch your […]

“I want to officially change my name to Chaos.”

🙂 I’m so thankful for this life. This is an abundant life. If you ever have to make the decision: 2 kids or 3…3 kids or 4…. I have to tell you GO FOR IT. This has been the hardest, most rewarding, most fun year of my life.  Okay. Yes. I sort of remember. The first 9 months were actually so overwhelming I was borderline depressed the whole time. The arrival of spring was such a turning point for me! […]

Breathe, breathe, breathe…..Moving time is here!!!

Prepping for the big cross-country move…..it’s exhausting! If you come to our house this week, it will look like we plan to stay another year. There are no boxes to be seen, and all of our stuff is still sitting in its regular old place. That’s the beauty of a military move. They actually send a team of “packers” to your house, and in 2 or 3 days every single item we own–minus candles and cleaning products–will be boxed up. […]

Delaying Dreams When You are Busy Being Mom

delaying other dreams for the dream of motherhood

In my head, and even sometimes on paper, I always have at least 10 good ideas for things I want to write about on my blog. I even sometimes manage to write it all out in my head, exactly what I will write….if I can just get a minute…..to make that my priority. Just this week, there was a delicious 7 layer cake that I made, numerous thoughts on my first year of parenting 4 children, even more thoughts on […]
