Newborn Parenting

….because sometimes reality looks like this   Phew!  What a week.  I usually live for the weekend, but this weekend Alan had to work on Saturday too, leaving me looking like John David does in the photo above!  With Alan gone 11 hours/day and my mom gone, and still in recovery from the c-section, this week was one I will choose to never remember.    Next week doesn’t look much better, but at least it will end at Friday.   […]

An Exhausting Phase

Brotherly Love    John David enjoys looking out the window. 5 weeks old   Do any of you feel as tired as I do right now?  Now before I start to whine, I will say that we had a break through last night.  “Bobby” usually sleeps 1 or 2 four hour stretches at night, and that’s the most rest that I get…..   BUT  last night, he slept SIX HOURS.  I fed him at 9:40pm, and he didn’t […]

Summer Fun

4 1/2 weeks. This Sunday I went back to Sunday School for the first time, had friends over for lunch, and went to our Supper Club for a bit that evening.  It was a BIG day, and by Monday night I was exhausted, but it was worth it.   Apparently this is my go-to postpartum dress b/c this is me 2 years ago, with Daniel 4 1/2 weeks after his birth.   The baby is now officially 5 weeks old. Summer Parenting

John David is now 1 whole month old!!  He has grown enough to way make up for being born the smallest brother.  The boy really is 23 1/2 inches long.  He must be.  His 0/3 month sleepers are getting too short.  Can you believe that? Summer is going full force.  I suppose it has been for a while….only I am just now noticing it.  Another crazy thing to blame on my postpartum state. Parenting during the summer is a very […]

Cousins

The boys got to meet their very first first cousin this week.  And I got to meet my very first nephew!!  Now I really feel like an aunt.  : )   Cousins are such an important part of growing up.  I mean family gatherings are a given every year.  For kids those can mean great, fun learning experiences…..or they can be a real snooze- fest when there are no other kids around.  In the absence of cousins, kids typically end […]

Family Reunion

This weekend the kids and Alan went to a family reunion in Georgia.  So here I will attempt to tell you about a weekend…..that I wasn’t actually a part of!  Ha!  I’ve heard the story from several sources, and it sounds like a good time was had by all.  They stayed at a park that boasted such amenities as spacious cabins and on-site alligators! To all of you that were there:  I so wish I could’ve been there.  Next year!! […]

The Fourth Week Postpartum

4th week postpartum

John David, 3 1/2 weeks old, in an outfit provided by my friend Helena, who let it be known, is the greatest meatball maker ever!  Yeah, he sleeps better during the day than he does at night. When it comes to technology, there is a lot that I don’t get.  The photo app on my tablet is one of those things.  I never made this collage of three photos, shown above.  The tablet just made it for me…without me asking […]

Feeding the Littlest Brother

I am officially tired of resting.  Unfortunately, after a couple hours on my feet, my body is not so tired of resting.  I guess that’s the thing about nursing a baby.  It does make you rest.   I’m definitely no longer an invalid.  I’m ready to get on with life now.   One of the oddest things about having a baby with three other children is trying to breastfeed the baby, with three little boys buzzing around.  I try […]

But what do we call him??

His profile reminds me so much of Joshua This was Joshua at 2 months, a little older, but same profile.  We are still using that blanket and night gown too.      John David has not had a good day today, not unless you consider feeding the baby every 1 1/2 to 2 hours a good day, which I most certainly do not.    This is one of those days when you just want some time alone, which is a pretty […]

Newborn Reality

Joshua LOVES babies.  He holds John David every chance he gets, and he is the only brother that doesn’t make JD nervous.  You can imagine how poor little JD feels about Dan…   J.D. and I are officially 3 weeks out.  I am feeling much better c-section-wise, with only occasional aches and throbbing.  Three more weeks!   J.D.  is starting to accept us as a family a bit more.  Ha!  Can you imagine waking up to realize the people who […]
