Cross Country Road Trip of a Lifetime: First Stop: Alabama

JD’s first move— He seems to be having a pretty good time.  Today Alan and I kissed our children good-bye and set back out–alone this time–on our big cross-country road trip. It’s really been fun so far.  Over the last few days I have gotten to visit both sides of our families, swim in the backyard pool with my two oldest boys, celebrate JD’s first birthday, visit a Pioneer Museum in Alabama, and even revisit the University of Alabama campus, […]

Aren’t you going to wear the hat?

This year was, by far, the most fun I have ever had on Mother’s Day, as a mom.  It wasn’t that I did anything special.  I somehow didn’t even manage to get in my regular Sunday nap.  (How did that happen??) The thing was that I just had so much fun with my precious family. Alan took them to town on Saturday and let them pick out my gifts.  His store of choice:  Five and Below.  Sounds like a recipe […]

Easter: The Golden Baptist Standard

Remember last Easter, when I was about 7 months pregnant and I totally forgot to prepare for Easter?  I joked that I had fallen very short of the “golden Baptist standard of Easter Sunday.” Well, boo-yah!!!  Look who planned ahead this year!!!!! Are those MATCHING outfits???  Why,yes, they are!  We’ve come a long way, baby. (For a refresher on last Easter, just click here.) (ahem…..that is a joke. Easter is not about clothing, of course….sometimes it may feel like […]

My Vacation Timeshare Disaster

The Vacation Time Share Disaster

This past Friday, we gathered up all of our chick-ies and headed to Massanutten Ski Resort.  I had been so proud of myself for finally booking a nice vacation for us, well in advance.  We aren’t always the best vacation planners.  You can make us sound fun by calling us “spontaneous”, but really that just means we procrastinate until we actually leave and then end up “winging it,” missing out on all the things that book out really far in […]

Why I LOVE the Proverbs 31 Woman

~sweet moments~   Have you ever noticed that when you vow to do something or to not do something, it suddenly becomes harder than ever to do/not do that thing??   It reminds me of a Bible passage that we discussed in our Sunday School class last week: 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I […]

I hate the pressure of Christmas.

hilarious wrapping job

I love Christmas.  Nothing makes me more happy than arranging Christmas decorations, baking cookies, taking road trips with the kids, and shopping in crowded malls! Wait. That’s not true.  No, I don’t.  No, I really really don’t.     Not once this year have I said any of those things.    Okay, so yeah, I’m a bit of a Scrooge.  I hate the pressure of Christmas. –Crowded malls make me hot, like literally sweaty. I get overwhelmed and confused by […]

I Love Being a Boy Mom and This is Why

I love being a boy mom and this is why.

I mean really there are a billion reasons why I LOVE being a boy mom, and I cannot list them all. But I am going to do my best to paint a picture of this life and how fun it can be. People often laugh when I tell them that I have four boys. Actually, I laugh when I really think about it!  And still people constantly ask me if I’m going to “try for that girl”.  Well, the answer […]

The Importance of The Day of Rest

Sunday is the Lord’s Day here at our house. This is the day that we go to church, and ideally this is also the day we finally get some quiet rest at home.  Isn’t it annoying when organizations try to take that restful day away from you with ideas of work you can do instead??  Bleh.  I was afraid this was going to be one of those kind of Sundays, as both Alan and I had meetings to attend at church, […]

Fun Things to do in Fairfax County: Frying Pan Farm Park

Frying Pan Farm Park, Fairfax County

Frying Pan Farm Park Today Alan took the day off work, and we all visited Frying Pan Farm Park.  Everyone had a good time, in spite of the ever-present chill.  They had farm animals, a blacksmith shop, a wagon ride, a carousel, and a playground. They have a nice playground, and of course the boys insisted on playing on the playground as soon as we got there. We felt like Caleb was really channeling his DaddyO in this fleece vest. […]
