What a truly realistic schedule would look like

I mentioned before that I’m using this book to build a new family schedule.   My first one was ridiculously over-zealous: I’ve scratched some of that mess out and shortened it and replaced as much as possible with “Sit on the porch and watch Daniel ride his trike.” However, a TRULY REALISTIC schedule would look more like this: 6:00 Begin hitting snooze button…. 6:30 Get out of bed. Take quick walk. 6:45 Argue with Alan over which is quicker: Keurig […]

Creating Our Home school Schedule

For my first year of home schooling, I worked out a schedule and adjusted it repeatedly until it WORKED. That was last year. I had a one-year-old. Year 2: Three weeks in. I now have a 2-year-old, which means less nap time. I also added in teaching time for the 3rd kid. That’s right. Daniel was 3 last year, so I wasn’t actually spending much time teaching him. Plus, we decided to return to kids’ sports. Oh, and I now […]

Dirt boy does not wish to go to the potty.

JD is the definition of “all boy”. He requires 2 baths and 3 sponge-downs/day. He plays in dirt, sand, mud, and water. He’s the easiest toddler in the world because you will hardly hear a grunt out of him all day. He wakes up, and he says, “Dirt?” “You want to go play in the dirt?” “Yeth.” “Sure,” and we open the door to our mini-fence. It is literally a mini-fence. It is the size of a bedroom, and since […]

A Potty Training Pep Talk

I am not new at this. John David is my fourth boy, my fourth go-round. This is nothing new for me. I should not be intimidated by this at all. Right????? Wrong. There are some things in life that you dread more with experience. As a first-time mom, I had no idea the things that can happen during potty training. How could anyone know these things? I was just stumped as to where to even begin. Now that I’ve had […]

Summer Updates: Sunburn, Confessions, & Pictures. This is the rest of the story.

Sometimes I mention things on my blog, and then I never come back and tell you the rest of the story, so today I’m going to just do that. Here’s a little update on things I’ve mentioned, with lots of cute photos thrown in. I told you that we packed up and headed South, but did I mention that Daniel is my #1 packing assistant? He is a hard worker! He’d pack one suitcase with me, and I would want […]

“Dad, you’re better than a kangaroo.”

As I mentioned yesterday, we are in Florida, on vacation. Joshua asked us last night, “So where are we going to church tomorrow?” Oh. um… I thought we’d just go to the beach. However, we are not ones to ignore the requests of our children, especially such a noble request. We went to a contemporary Southern Baptist Church called The Village. We dropped JD off at the nursery, and the rest of us sat together through a service, and I […]

The Reason I Don’t Want to Fly to Alabama

I love visiting my family. I love going to the beach. I love seeing my people! Why does Alabama have to be so incredibly far from California? If I want to go there, I really do HAVE to fly. I only have to do it 4 more times. 1 round trip this summer and 1 round trip this Christmas. Then hopefully, I will never have to do it again. Why? Why don’t I like taking a 5-6 hour flight? Well, let […]

My name is April, and I am addicted to Facebook.

Facebook is holding me back. I’ll tell you what I mean. Tonight I really wanted to go to bed early. My new “good habit” for this month, via coachcox.com is getting 8 hours of sleep per night. Stop shaking your head and chuckling. I can do it. Can YOU? That’s right. I’m literally taking a SLEEP challenge. I’ve never been so happy to accept a challenge. 🙂 Coach Cox doesn’t really call it a sleep challenge. He calls it building healthy […]

“Good news from the graveyard!”

That sounds like a terribly morbid title for a post, doesn’t it? 😉 Don’t worry. We haven’t actually taken to haunting “dying holes.” But I DO have several bits of GOOD news!!! They are, in completely random order, as follows: #1. Have I mentioned a thousand times yet that this is the LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL?????  I have NEVER been so excited to see the last day of school arrive. This whole first-year-back-to-teaching, all while relocating the family across the […]

Life in Northern Cal: Modeling Good Habits and Helping the Homeless

There are so many exciting things going on in our chilly little Northern Cal world, it’s hard to keep my head on straight! Alan is in the middle of a mid-term schedule that has him pretty stressed. He actually has to go out of town later this week to test out a drone parachute that he designed. Woohoo! Alan and I are so different. No one would ever, in a billion years, ask me to design ANYTHING. Thanks to this […]
