My Eight Parenting Mottos, For Which I Make No Apologies

There are a few parenting mottos I’ve adopted, for which I do not apologize, not even a little, not even at all: #1. I’m difficult to communicate with/get a hold of. It doesn’t matter whether you email or call. I’m difficult. I’m maybe a little sorry for this one, but what can be done? If JD’s awake, taking care of him is a full-time job in and of itself. When he’s not awake, I must recover from the time that he […]

You can have the gluten, but you’ll never get the chocolate!

You can have the gluten, but you'll never get the chocolate!

Have you ever tried to be gluten-free? Before you roll your eyes, let me assure you that I’m not about to try to convince you to join me on this. I’m trying this, at the recommendation of my cardiologist, in order to feel better. Can I get a tee-shirt that contains that explanation because I feel like such a trendy hippie or diet-nut at parties now. “Are these gluten-free?” I don’t want to be that guy. Maybe I should just […]

And so goes the tooth fairy…

Alan and the boys were getting ready to leave. Caleb was sitting at the table writing something on a napkin. Alan said, “Caleb, what’re you doing? Are you writing the tooth fairy a letter?” “Huh? Did she miss a tooth??” I asked, possibly panicking a little bit. Oh no! Had I messed that up again? Alan explained, “He lost his tooth, so she had no idea because he didn’t put a tooth or a letter under his pillow,” halfway talking […]

My Pinterest Fail and other funny stories. Bring it, Christmas!

I am excited about the holidays! So excited! Mostly because it means I don’t have to teach as much. Is that wrong? I was at the chiropractor’s office today, when lo and behold, Daniel’s new preschool teacher walked in. I admitted to her that her job was much too hard on the back for me. Just the one day of volunteering had me running home to my hot pack. But you know what? She loves teaching. It’s her calling! I’m […]

“Doesn’t JD make your heart smile?” It’s a quote post!

Alan, Caleb, and JD were in the kitchen eating cookies. I don’t know what JD said, but Caleb looked up at Alan and said, “Doesn’t JD make your heart smile?” We all definitely smiled. Caleb has also recently taken up saying, “ain’t.” He uses it correctly (if there is such a thing), but it took me by surprise. We don’t say ‘ain’t,’ nor does anyone that he knows in California. My suspicions lie with Granddaddy, but that’s okay. Caleb has […]

Just the Funny Paper: Hilarious Toddler Stories

Just the Funny Paper: Hilarious Toddler Stories

JD is obsessed with three things: dirt, Lightning McQueen, and Mom. After all, he’s two. He inherited at least one Lightning McQueen car from his big bros, but he has also been given several as gifts. He got at least one for Christmas, he got three or more for his birthday, plus he got one when Nonna visited. All total, I’m thinking there should be a pile of 10 Lightning McQueens somewhere in this house, yet we can never find […]

Creating Our Home school Schedule

For my first year of home schooling, I worked out a schedule and adjusted it repeatedly until it WORKED. That was last year. I had a one-year-old. Year 2: Three weeks in. I now have a 2-year-old, which means less nap time. I also added in teaching time for the 3rd kid. That’s right. Daniel was 3 last year, so I wasn’t actually spending much time teaching him. Plus, we decided to return to kids’ sports. Oh, and I now […]

“You’re Gonna Make it After All!” A Night at the ER

My crazy week is over. There’s a fresh new week to take on, with no mistakes in it yet. Rest assured. We will add plenty. 🙂 But this week my spirit is at rest. It won’t be much easier. Joshua broke his arm Saturday, and it will be re-cast this week. That means we will have to manage……dumdumdum……the health insurance circus. How many hoops can we make this lady go through? They are the best at that. JD threw up […]

What to Do to Overcome Evil With Good Today

To begin with, I will say that no one ever said overcoming evil is easy. This has been an exhausting week, with both Art Camp and Vacation Bible School going on. It’s hard to explain why. It’s difficult to tell you what it’s like to get 4 little boys ready to leave the house 3 times a day, wake up early, and stay up late. It’s hard to explain why I completely melted down yesterday morning, but I did. Let’s […]

VBS and Art Camp. Ready or not, we are doing this.

This is the big week, the BIG BIG week. The boys are going to Vacation Bible School, at our very own church. So yes, that means I am going to help. It’s an embarrassingly minimal amount of helping, really. I basically signed up to help lead around 2nd and 3rd graders and listen to them say Bible verses. I haven’t decorated or contributed in any other way. So why is this a big deal? Because we have the only two […]
