The God of the Living, with the Queen of Bizzaro

Occasionally, I think about how bizarro some of my steeped-in-the-Bible thoughts may sound to my non-Christian friends that read this blog. Even more occasionally, I exercise! And today I did both! I went running, something that I used to LOVE, but never do anymore. Don’t you do the best thinking and praying when you are out walking or running? I certainly do. Before I went running, I was reading Matthew 22. That’s all part of my plan to study Jesus […]

Squashing Fear and Walkin’ On

Lately I’ve felt a little discouraged by the national and international news. Ugh. I hate to think about all the problems we are not dealing with and are instead handing down to our children! How do we keep on going and enjoying life, and not shutting down every social media account that we have in the face of great fear and opposition? How do we resist the urge to lock our children up in their rooms and bolt the doors? […]

This Year

Christmas vacation was exactly what I think I needed. It was so refreshing to spend time with our families. I was horribly selfish. I slept late every single morning. No, really. One day, I actually slept until 1:00pm. No kidding! I did almost no work at all. None. I sat on sofas, opened presents galore, drank copious amounts of flavored coffee and let other people chase J.D. around. You can’t pour sweet tea from a broken pitcher, and this Momma […]

Thankfulness in Photos

I love Thanksgiving. Today I am thanking my Heavenly Father for all the blessings he has bestowed upon us this year–this wild and crazy year! 2014 was EXCITING. It has been a challenge, full of change, and full of learning. And I am thankful for it. I’m thankful my dad is such a FUN Granddaddy. Having a scooter hasn’t slowed him down at all. As Caleb would say, “Granddaddy, you’re just as crazy as ever,” as Caleb grins from ear […]

God provides, as always. Hallelujah!!

I’ve been struggling lately. It’s been a year of lots of change, it’s overwhelming, and Alan is so busy with his engineering classes. Some days I have been a borderline bitter/icky person. I didn’t realize just how gloomy I’d gotten until I was at Bible study Thursday night with some gals in my neighborhood, and I just HEARD MYSELF. Woah. I need to get it together! This week I really hit a low point, and I just sat on my […]

The California Coast: Just don’t eat from that tree in the middle.

When Alan and I were getting ready to move here, people just went on and on, telling us how beautiful it is here. Everyone seemed completely in awe of the place, describing the weather as “perfect, though cool, all year round”, mosquitos non-existent, perfect, perfect, perfect. “Okay.” Alan told me, “This place has been so built up. I’m going to be completely disappointed if this isn’t paradise itself. I am fully expecting there to be a tree in the middle […]

So they are no longer two, but one.

This week marks 12 years that  Alan and I have been married. God blessed the day I married my better half. One of the best decisions I ever made was one of the ones I was most criticized for. I do think people’s opinions can be helpful, and I do listen to the advice of others. But what others? You have to be careful about which group you are listening to. Our closest friends and our parents never doubted us […]

Bad news from the summer that just keeps on giving

You wouldn’t believe the news I got today. Or if you are military, maybe you would. It’s easy to feel happy and hopeful when life is going pretty well. Sure, life is hectic always with little boys to take care of, but at least you can find some sort of ‘normal’ in that. We are all healthy. Things have been okay. Isn’t it funny how easy it is to shake your head at the whiners when your life looks pretty good? […]

Thoughts on Public Parenting

I am so dog tired I can barely keep my eyes open. The thing is that we are headed to a state park in the boonies this weekend, so I feel like if I don’t update the blog tonight, it will be Monday before I get another chance! Do you think I can actually go a whole weekend unplugged?? ha!  Of course I can! Just look at these four little diversions that I have. I’ll be lucky just to get […]

Beautiful Point Lobos State Park is the Easiest Place to Find Seals in the wild Near Monterey

best place to find sea lions and seals in the wild

We visited Carmel by the Sea this week, and I am completely in awe at the state park we found there. This stunning state park is called Point Lobos, and if you have been, then you know. If you have not been, allow me to introduce you to my favorite state or national park in the entire U.S of A. Carmel by the Sea may be the ritziest area that I have ever visited. I’m used to walking through streets […]
